Some of the issues we discussed during our meeting was extending support to each one of us in times of need. We have so far visited some of parents when unwell, contributed towards medical bills. We've also visited one of us who suffered a stroke. We've been praying with him and his family. Giving them Emotional, financial and spiritual support. Those who had initially tried to shun down my idea now are pleading to be added to the group. We are doing great and supporting each other especially during this time some lost jobs , broken relationships among others.

Small discussion group on teenage pregnancy, where we were discussing reasons for rampant early pregnancy among young girls in the school.

Factors that led to success of the discussion included:

1. Common concern issues, as most girls dropped out of school because of early pregnancies

2.  Unity among the community members ( group members), where it was discovered that girls and boys related negatively, thus the irresponsible sexual behaviour among them.

3. A girl lost her life while trying to abort the pregnancy, it became important to help them with advice on how to cope with such issues.

4. Openness to share issues affecting our children at home, school and the community.

Factors that negatively affected achievement of goals include:

* Lack of transparency

* Lack of knowledge and skills

* Shyness to point out problems affecting the young people

We were discussing on forming an investment group

  • All members of the group had a chance to speak, expressing their own ideas and feelings freely, and to pursue and finish out their thoughts
  • All members of the group had a chance hear others’ ideas and feelings stated openly
  • Group members safely tested out ideas that were not yet fully formed
  • Group members received respectful but honest and constructive feedback.  Feedback could be positive, negative, or merely clarifying or correcting factual questions or errors, but is in all cases delivered respectfully.
  • A variety of points of view were put forward and discussed
  • The discussion was not dominated by any one person
  • Arguments, while they may have been spirited, were based on the content of ideas and opinions, not on personalities
  • Even in disagreement, there was  understanding that the group was working together to resolve a dispute, solve a problem, create a plan, make a decision, find principles all can agree on, or come to a conclusion from which it can move on to further discussion

Starting a welfare group with the staff members to invest in property, precisely plots of land to benefit each member and their immediate family member.

This came as a result of the outcomes we saw in some of our colleagues who went on retire from their services without any investments for their future and the future of their families.

It was successful because members agreed in one accord. Contributions were done on monthly basis and this helped us to move at a recommendable pace.

HOWEVER, there wire challenges  whereby some of the members could delay in submitting their contributions on time.
