Take a walk down memory lane.

Avatar
Els

Step 1

Take a walk down memory lane into your childhood;

  • Note down the experiences that made you happy

  • Note down the experiences that were unpleasant

  • Identify the person(s) who had the greatest positive impact in your life

  • Identify those who had a negative impact on your life

  • How do the positive experiences influence your current life experiences?

  • How do the negative experiences influence your current life experiences?

  • Are there unresolved issues that you need to address?

Step 2:

  • What rights do you think you enjoyed?

  • What rights did you think were abused?

  • What lessons can you pick from your experience that would help you play a bigger role in protecting the rights of your learners?

The experiences that made me happy are the childhood games with peers, art and craft lessons, painting, games and sports at school and clay moulding.

The unpleasant experiences were mockery from some teachers and peers, denial to participate in singing games and choir and being caned.

The person who had the greatest positive impact in my life was my teacher of English. The one who had a negative impact was my art and craft teacher and singing games trainer.

The negative experiences made me feel inferior and unsure of myself thus impacting negatively on my academics and participation in sports as well. The positive experiences inspired me to achieve even greater things and gain confidence.

Currently, from my childhood, there are no unresolved issues because I got to let go off those teachers and peers who intensly mocked me. I do not project on my learners. I treat them fairly and with love.

I enjoyed the right to education, play, medication, security and shelter. I was denied the right to food and play sometimes, respect, fair treatment and dignity.

My childhood experiences have taught me to be cautious about learners' emotional well being and how it impacts on their academics and all spheres of life. I thus endeavour to be fair, just, loving, kind in speech and action; as well as available for them to open up whenever necessary.

Experiences that made me happy:

I received a lot of love, care, concern and protection from my parents and siblings.

Unpleasant experiences:

We were very poor and worse still,my dad died when I was in class seven so I lacked most of the basic needs.

The people who had the greatest positive impact in my life were my mum and my brothers. They held my hand and led me through life.Their wise counsel is still fresh in my mind even today.Actually they were used by God to make the person I am today.

The people who had a negative impact on my life were my other relatives from the extended family because they despised and discriminated against us just because we were poor and they created a lot of mistrust which exists even today.

The rights I enjoyed:

1.Survival rights.

2.Developmental rights.

3.Protection rights.

4.Participational rights.

Because of my childhood experiences,I normally find myself so much interested in children who come from poor families and I would like to continue encouraging them and protecting their rights especially against discrimination.

One of the happy moments in my childhood was when I scored a goal for my team against our opponents from a neighboring school.

My worst experience was when I was bullied by an older boy who had a father while I came from a single parent family. I had no father figure to report to. I hate it to date.

My teacher of English touched my heart. She used to give me compositions to write, story books to read and encouragement that I would make it in life. I'm greatly indebted to her. I'm a teacher because of her.

The bully lowered my self-esteem. I hated myself for not having a father figure. This, has made me try fill the gap  of the most vulnerable children.

I enjoyed freedom of expression at home. I could share freely with my parent.

I didn't enjoy much freedom of association among some older boys who had father figures.

Pleasant experiences in my childhood:

* A very loving and caring mum,

* Protected by my Mum and older siblings,

* A lot of play time with peers.

Unpleasant experiences:

* Sleeping hungry some times,

* Being bullied by older peers,

* Beaten by teachers when I couldn't complete homework,

People who had positive impact in my life are: My Mum, sisters and my headteacher, Sr. Honoratta Tesha.

People who had negatively affected my life: Harsh neighbour who who didn't allow us to interact with her children, terming us as poor neighbours who should not play with her children. Some teachers were extremely brutal,in the sense that they would come to class and begin by asking hard questions, of which we would be beaten when we failed to get the questions right.

- I enjoyed attending school and church, playing with others, birthday celebrations, visiting grand parents.

- My unpleasant experiences included doing too much house chores as the first  girl in the family, being at home with a brother who was hooked to drugs, taking a bath in the evening and not morning even when I reached age of menstruation.

- People with positive influence in my life were my parents, teachers and pastors.

-Persons with negative influence were my brother.

- The positive experiences influence my current life experiences in that having attended school,I am independent.Church has enabled me to be God fearing.I am able to socialise well with others.

- My negative experiences have influenced my life in that I still don't relate well with my brother,I don't easily talk about my issues,I am more of a lone ranger.

- Yes there are one or two unresolved issues to be addressed.

- The rights I enjoyed were right to education and other basic needs, life, freedom of worship, expression.

- Abused rights is that at times I felt I was undergoing child labour.

- Lessons learnt from my experiences is that our past or formative experiences greatly affect our future. So to help learners have a bright future I should give them a safe environment.

Experiences that made me happy is every time I came home with my report form and my Mum would be so excited at my passing.

It was very unpleasant for me every time Dad and Mum quarreled  and Dad assaulted my Mum. Their differences became worse to an extent that Dad neglected us and remarried.

My Mum loved me and cherished me she had such faith in me... She taught me to have faith.

On the other hand, my Dad made me to have a very low self _esteem when he rejected our family and left us for the Second family.

Positive experiences have taught me to bring out the best in others... To give them hope that what they are going through shall come to pass.

They don't I have learnt to overcome them and move since there is no need to cry over spilt milk.

No I am at peace I have learnt how to forgive and to forget..

Money given  when going to school was too little  as it included  my fare . I was  always asked to take  care  because  I will  not get more cash  yet I knew  my parents  were able.

Experiences that made me happy: being allowed time freedom to be self driven, and space to be alone and Quiet _i crave to be alone at times.unpleasant experiences was verbal abuse_ in mother tongue it sounded Soo bad___feaces that are rained on and also saliva spit on my forehead at the same time.that one was sweeping away my self esteem. My uncle rewarded hard work influencing me positively. My dad caned and judged me so much, killing self drive. I  reward my learners , something I learnt from my uncle,.I  prefer listening to a case before deciding, alot of supervision puts me off . Rights I enjoyed was freedom to education, and protection from abusive relatives, since we were not to visit relatives without a proper plan_though we could not understand then. For the learners I encourage them to stay with parents or responsible guardians so long as they are under 18, to avoid being taken advantage of by people who may abuse them .

Take a walk down memory lane into your childhood;

  • Note down the experiences that made you happy. when my dad bought me the school bag that I had always wanted to have.

  • Note down the experiences that were unpleasant. when i was denied a chance to form the team that was going to represent our school in football.

  • Identify the person(s) who had the greatest positive impact in your life. my dad, my mom,

  • Identify those who had a negative impact on your life. no one specific

  • How do the positive experiences influence your current life experiences? I am where am because of what they taught me in life

  • Are there unresolved issues that you need to address? no

Step 2:

  • What rights do you think you enjoyed? right to education and protection,

  • What rights did you think were abused? none that i can think of.

  • What lessons can you pick from your experience that would help you play a bigger role in protecting the rights of your learners? children are delicate and extremely dependent on adults and therefore we should offer them all the support they need from us. a child`s experience always spills over into their later life, we therefore should be very careful how we handle the children

-Experience that made me happy; first time going to a cinema hall when i was in class five with my dad

Unpleasant experience; being caned in primary school by all teachers because we had failed exams.

Positive impact - my dad and my class 3 teacher

Negative impact- Maths teacher in class 7

I am generous to those who are in need due to my dad's influence and becoming a teacher

I hated maths due to the negative impact of my maths teacher, i also don't like caning learners

I have no unresolved issue.

The rights I enjoyed were education, food, shelter and love

The lessons i learnt is to treat students like human beings who have a mind and i can facilitate their thinking and steer it to the right place and not by force of the cane.

Happy experiences

When I ever fell in love and realized I was loved back.

Unpleasant experiences

When I felt my family turned against me.

The person who had a greatest positive impact in my life was my maternal uncle. He would regularly remind me the benefits of hardwork and success.

On the other hand a person I perceived to have loved so much betrayed me. I almost hated everything and everyone around me.

Positive experience I had earlier has made me realise the need to always work hard and remain positive in all I do.

I have so many family unresolved issues that need to be addressed but by who??? I have personal unresolved issues that I'm unable to deal with.

I enjoyed being in school, shelter and being provided by the most relevant necessities.

Right to freedom was violated to some point especially as a child I when I couldn't associate freely with my fellow children at some point.

Play is a key thing in the life of any child. Every child has a right to play and associate with other peers freely

Happy experiences: Travelling and camping and playing volleyball

Unpleasant experiences:Severe punishment from teachers and parents

My parents really impacted my life positively by clearly drawing the lines for the bad and good staff which has been my driving force upto date

There was a neighbour of ours when I was young who was very mean and aggressive to because he even deprived his children of their right to play and mingle with us

The positive impacts are well depicted upto date and I have even used the same to raise my children

The negative impact has since been very traumatizing since I have always wanted to know what turned of the kids that belonged to the mean neighbour

There are no resolved issues since I once met up with one of the children who has turned out to be very okay and told me the rest were faring on well with their lives

Right to partication was deprived
